Our Story

  1. How we met

    We met over lunch at Google's San Francisco office; an employee resource group gathering where a Nigerian and a Kenyan ended up sharing a table. Conversation came easily, friendship followed, and mutual interests in the arts and sciences kept us close.

  2. Falling in love

    Candlelight concerts. Long drives along the California coast. Dives off the coast of Mombasa. Gastronomy in Lagos. With Adetunji in New York, and Sally in San Francisco, third spaces and adventure brought us closer.

  3. The proposal

    On a summer evening above Lake Lucerne, over a picnic with the Alps behind them, Adetunji went down on one knee and Sally said yes.

What time should I arrive?

Please aim to be seated by 11:00 AM. The family introductions begin promptly and are one of the loveliest parts of the day.

Where exactly is the venue, and is there parking?

Forest Edge Rd, Nairobi. Near BOMAS of Kenya, and an easy drive from Karen and Langata, with on-site parking. We’ll send the exact address and directions to everyone who RSVPs, closer to the day.

What should I wear?

Cultural and elegant. Traditional attire (aso-oke, gele, agbada, kitenge, beadwork) is warmly encouraged and always photographs beautifully.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome.

What about gifts?

Your presence is our greatest gift. Should you wish to bless our new home, a contribution towards our life together is warmly appreciated. Details can be shared on request.

What should I know about Nairobi?
  • Getting around. Skip the guesswork and use Uber, Bolt or Little Cab. Download the app and add a card before you fly (airport Wi-Fi is patchy). Wilson Airport in Langata is handy for safari hops.
  • SIM & data. Safaricom has the best coverage — even out on safari. Pick up a SIM at the JKIA arrivals desk or any Safaricom shop; bring your passport, as registration is required. Affordable tourist data bundles are easy to load.
  • Paying your way. Visa & Mastercard work at malls, hotels and most restaurants. Day to day, though, M-Pesa (mobile money on your Safaricom line) is king — set it up if you can, and keep a little cash for smaller spots.
  • Where to eat. Karen & Langata favourites: Talisman, Carnivore (nyama choma), Cultiva and CJ’s at the Waterfront. City-side gems include About Thyme, Inti and Nyama Mama. Book ahead at weekends.
  • Malls & shopping. Near Karen: The Hub, The Waterfront, Galleria and The Junction. For groceries, Naivas, Carrefour and QuickMart (some open 24 hours) are all over town.
  • Google Maps is your friend. It’s reliable right across Nairobi for driving directions — and it even knows the matatu routes. Lean on it to find your way around.
